Brian Mond, Managing Director at Kiser Group and sailing enthusiast since age 12, participated in the Beneteau 40.7 North American Championship August 10, 2013. Despite the light winds presenting a challenge, Mond and his team, sailing the Vayu vessel, took home the 2013 Verve Cup Trophy.
The 12 crew members aboard the Vayu, including owner and skipper Ron Buzil, were awarded the Chicago Yacht Club’s oldest trophy, dating back to 1893. The Chicago Yacht Club welcomed over 130 sailboats to take part in the largest course-racing regatta in North America. The world class event consisted of 3 days of offshore racing from Friday to Sunday and a distance race on Saturday.
Mond attributes the win to the team saying, “There was very little wind. It was a challenge to keep the boat sped up, but we were dialed in and our team work really paid off.” Since joining the crew 3 years ago, Mond races every Wednesday and most weekends, as long as the breeze stays strong on Lake Michigan.
